By researching your property and house you can learn:
- Construction date of the building
- The original footprint of the building
- The orginal construction material of the building
- The original lot size and any severances made throughout the years
- Any additions made to the house
- A timeframe of the addition or removal of properties on the lot, such as
- sheds
- barns
- pools
- ponds
- additional buildings
- forests
- fences
- play structures, etc
- A chronology of property owners/tenants from the 1860s to the present
- Biographical information on property owners/tenants (name, occupation)
- Birth, death, marriage and cemetary records (this is limited)
- A summary of the development of the neighbourhood - surrounding houses, historical shops, hotels, schools, churches, etc.
- Date of street construction, age of neighbouring homes
- Historical significance of the building or property - was there a church or log school house on the property at one time?
